In defense of the P&G Committee I think I should maybe speak up here. I was riding
with David that day, and I was the only actual "witness" the committee had. The protest was filed in a timely manner by someone who wasnt anywhere around us. My statement was the only facts that day. No one witnessed what happened to Dancer when he went over the side of the canyon. The protest as filed had eroneous "quotes" in the statements supposedly made by me, I corrected this in my statement. All the P&G Committee had for sure was that he was using his crop to keep a tired horse going. I am not defending David, I have my personal feelings on the issue as I was there. And I think what happened was unneccesary and trajic. But the committee can only act on what was actually witnessed and sanction accordingly. Certain persons who had witnessed things in the past failed to step forward. When we start accepting inuendos and opinions the rules will damage the innocent as well as punish the guilty. Hearsay is a dangerous thing.
