[RC] [Guest] Riding to close - Ridecamp Guest

C. H. Peloquin cpenguin57@xxxxxxx

Ok, after reading all this about stallions I am a little concerned. I ride
an Alpha Mare who is very protective of her space. We have worked
consistantly on discipline when she shows aggression by offering to kick or
bite another horse. She thinks I belong in her herd and is protective when
I am on the ground or in the saddle. She is NOT Alpha over me. I have just
begun competing her and sometimes when other riders invade her space she
makes really ugly faces and will infrequently offer to bite. I repeat she
gets disciplined, and now she doesn't kick unless it's warning shot for
someone whose nose is in the wrong place. She tolerates getting bumped by
accident, I pony off her, with no reaction. I always put a red ribbon in
her tail and if we're going someplace new like the OD this weekend I will
braid one into her forelock. It means she'll bite if you get your horses
nose in her face. Not all horses are sweet, all the time. Respect for
others is very important (horses and riders). Personally, I like someone
beside me not beside and just behind where I can only hear them. I feel all
riders should respect the space of another, no matter what the sex.
