Re: [RC] Grain At Rides - Susan Garlinghouse, DVM

If your horse does not get much grain at home. Mostly hay, grass and
Triple
Crown Lite. What would you carry to feed your horse on a 40 mile trail
with
no grass or other edibles.

Hay, grass and Triple Lite. Whatever he gets at home and can be stuffed
into a baggie (yes, it's possible to handpick some grass and carry that
along, too). <g>

My thoughts are Beet pulp and/or Equine senior and/or carrots and apples.

Carrots and some apple is fine, but don't introduce senior or beet pulp at
the ride if he doesn't get them at home.

If
grass then did present itself, would it be best to let him choose between
the grass and the grain mix?

I'd say let him graze when grass is available, and when it isn't, then offer
the grain.
