[RC] Multi-day completion rates - Jonni Jewell

Why do multi days have such a high completion? By percentage Around The
Mountain had a 92% completion rate in all 5 days, no days with more than 3
out of 25 - 30 horses pulled. Where Goethe Challenge had an 83% comletion in
LD, 81% in 50, and 62.5% completion in the hundred. I realize these rides
are completely different sides of the country, but it seems to be a trend in
all the Multi days that there are fewer pulls. Do more experienced people
ride Multi Days?<<<

The over all attitude at Multi-day rides seems to be different. Coming in
first or top ten is not as important as having enough horse to ride again
the next day...and the next. I think the riders take better care of their
horses over all, and have a better understanding of when their horse is
"just not quite right". And yes, I do think that the riders that do
multi-day rides as a regular thing, are often better "horsemen" (and
horsewomen). They can usually handle most circumstances that arise on the
trail, without needing a crew, or management to rescue them.

Also, a side note on 100 miler completions. Interesting that Old Dominion
usually starts around 25 or so horses, and Tevis starts around 225, but
often both have about the same percentage of finishers.
