[RC] tying horses that "won't tie" - Andrea Day

Alison:

Yep, that thing you read about running a belly rope through the halter to tie a horse works, and works great. Keeps a puller from getting purchase and from trying to rear over backwards. They might sit down, but they get right back up. As long as your hitch rack is solid enough/built well that they can't get over or under, and your rope/halter/hardware is good, that horse will eventually stand tied. But the smart ones soon learn to stand when there's a belly rope, so that's just the first lesson.

Got to get them to respect a halter and tie, and the only way to do it is keep tying them. Hours and hours of standing tied, preferably to stout posts or hitch racks in different places, with and without a hay bag, at home and away, with and without other horses and distractions around. Just something that doesn't get done much anymore.
