months ago. The animals will be held at the SPCA's Perry Campus in McKinney
until Saturday, May 17 when they will be available for adoption via a
lottery for a $300 donation fee. The ponies, along with 301 other farm
animals, were rescued from the property of Richard and Patricia Gilfus in
December 2001. They and their offspring were forfeited to the Humane Society
of Rochester & Monroe County at Lollypop Farm near Rochester, New York. A
Cayuga County (NY) jury convicted each of four members of the Gilfus family
of 14 counts of animal
cruelty last October.
WHEN: Estimated arrival date for the first 8 ponies scheduled for
Friday, May 9 (afternoon arrival time TBA). A second transport will arrive
next week.
WHERE: SPCA of Texas

MORE Since their rescue, the ponies have been in the care of the farm staff
INFO: at the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm. A total of 101 horses were
rescued, and 24 foals were born while in the humane society's care. None of
the pastures where the horses were located had proper shelter; some were
confined to stalls soaked with urine and feces. The horses had limited
access to food and water and many had no outside access. Others had
overgrown feet, cracked hooves and were infested with worms.
The SPCA needs contributions toward the care and feeding of these ponies
while they await adoption. Applications will be available by calling
