[RC] - Ed Kilpatrick

hi there,  not a bad idea at all to let your husband ride a gaited horse while you trot out. you can experiment a bit to match the speed.  and remember, the gaited horses can walk too!  and lope! what i would suggest is to let him try out several different breeds to see which type of movement he likes best.  it is really a matter of personal preference. some like walkers, some like foxtrotters, some like peruvian paso and some like paso fino. i have ridden just about all of the gaited breeds, including the mangalarga marchador from brazil and the colombian criollo(trote/galope).  the twh fans like squareness of gait and the larger size of the horses.  foxtrotters have a lot of action.  i like paso finos because they are really smooth and dont nod the head when they move.  peruvian pasos have really good rear drive and are very smooth as well.  so, let him try some out before you commit to buying.     ed
