[RC] Shoe/pad/filler question - C. Eyler

My 13 year old gelding has thin soles.  When I've tried pads they tended to break out the nail holes, though at that time he was wearing shoes without clips.  I'd also like to give him some cushioning.  A friend suggested an arrangement that sounds good to me, but I'd like to know if there's something we're missing:
- St. Croix eventers with clips
- Shock-Tamer pads
- Equi-Pak filler OR Equi-Build filler

Our feeling is that the combination of clips and the set-up filler will prevent shearing forces on the nail holes.  The Equi-Pak provides more cushioning than the Build, but the Build might do a better job of holding everything tightly together.

Has anybody tried this arrangement?  Any opinions based on using Equi-Pak or Equi-Build as a pad filler?
