Re: [RC] Horse getting loose while bridling - rrohwer Rohwer

I learned a trick at a Brannaman clinic. Kind of hard to explain but will
try. If using a rope halter you can put your bridle on over the rope
halter. Then untie the rope halter. To get the nose band off, you need to
slip it into the horses mouth then work it around the back of the bit and
bring it back out of the horses mouth. Then you can slip the halter off.
It is kind of a pain especially if your horse doesn't like you in the mouth.
But they need to learn to let you do these kinds of things anyway. Just one
more way to keep the halter on while bridling but not have to keep it on
when you ride if you choose not to.

There is a very simple way to avoid losing a horse while switching from
halter to bridle: Don't take the halter off!

Use either a thin rope halter....or a biothane halter with clip on
bit....or
halter with add-on headstall that consists of poll strap
with browband that clips around the halter.

I would never, ever consider riding on the trail without a halter on
underneath. Then you have it to tie to on the trail.

Why on earth take the halter off?
