How bizarre!  If horses aren't transportation, what are they?  And we have only to look back about 85 years to the time when horses were basically our ONLY transportation, at least on a local level.  Yes, there were trains, but for local transportation, and shorter distances, horses were IT.  How far removed some politicians, and many citizens have become from reality and something other than mechanical or electronic.  Sigh.......

I saw on the news last night that former New York Senator

Daniel Patrick Moynihan died yesterday.

 

He was one of my personal heroes:  a true statesman in

a time of shortsighted partisanship; a thoughtful man

working in an atmosphere of jingoism.  Daniel Moynihan

never joined the race to the bottom.

 

I bring him up here on Ridecamp because it was

Daniel Patrick Moynihan, working cooperatively with

Republican Senator Lincoln Chafe of Rhode Island,

who got the Recreational Trails Program and Alternative

Transportation Programs that fund so many of the

trail and rail-trail projects here in Massachusetts

and around the nation added to the federal

Transporation Equity Act (TEA-21) in 1993.
