Re: [RC] In Honor of Daniel Patrick Moynihan - Jeannie Gillen

Ditto on Sen.Moynihan...and while you are on the subject...I keep hearing in California that TEA projects that specifically include horses, do NOT qualify for funding because horses are not transportation......any comments will be appreciated.

Subject: [RC] In Honor of Daniel Patrick Moynihan

I saw on the news last night that former New York Senator
Daniel Patrick Moynihan died yesterday.

He was one of my personal heroes:  a true statesman in
a time of shortsighted partisanship; a thoughtful man
working in an atmosphere of jingoism.  Daniel Moynihan
never joined the race to the bottom.

I bring him up here on Ridecamp because it was
Daniel Patrick Moynihan, working cooperatively with
Republican Senator Lincoln Chafe of Rhode Island,
who got the Recreational Trails Program and Alternative
Transportation Programs that fund so many of the
trail and rail-trail projects here in Massachusetts
and around the nation added to the federal
Transporation Equity Act (TEA-21) in 1993.
