I will add to this question and ask if anyone has had any success with any
particular weed killer that does get rid of weeds and is not harmful to the
horses.

I wouldn't necessarily be too quick to eradicate weeds.  Many of them are 
beneficial, and the horses like to eat them.  I wonder how many people are 
paying big bucks for 1)weed killer and 2)herbal supplements containing 
dandelion, etc?
