[RC] AERC Numbers - Rides 2 Far

O.K. While I'm posting non-stop. Here's another thought I've had.

This year AERC added a $10 *per family member* surcharge to the family
membership. I know that some individual members resented the family
discount and I guess this is AERC's way of pacifying that concern.

However, here's the result at my house. Last year we had a family
membership and AERC got 4 members...two of which really ride. This year
with the extra charge I only joined two of us. AERC got the same amount
of money, but the membership was cut in HALF. Now, when Jerry Fruth needs
to try to convince someone in congress that we are a "force" he has to
tell how many members AERC has. I wonder how many "numbers" AERC lost
when they added that cost.

I think perhaps we should have gone the other direction. Maybe all
memberships should be "family". It doesn't cost AERC much of anything to
issue a number, and goodness knows Bill isn't going to cause them a bunch
of book work keeping up with his miles, but his number is just as big of
a jump in membership as mine is. I wonder if they considered numbers
other than dollars and if there has been an impact or if I was an
isolated case.

Just a thought
Angie
