Re: [RC] Camping on the cheap - Lra1222

Hi. I had to comment on this thread-- used to HATE camping! Being from the
younger generation (i'm 20), I'm a bit spoiled by the A/C and heat at home.
However, I am not lucky or rich enough to have a living quarters trailer or a
camper, so the must have things for me are:
- a cheap fan (walmart)
- cheap heater that runs on the little propane bottles (walmart)
- home made table (sheet of plywood on 2 folding sawhorses)
- propane stove (you can cook anything on one of these if you have the
patience-- also from walmart)
-a good attitude-- rain, mosquitoes, and humidity are real mood killers

I used to sleep in a tent, but got smart after waking up at Carolina one year
with ice hanging from the roof! Now I sleep in the trailer-- I do have a
gooseneck, so the BEST, MOST USEFUL, MOST APPRECIATED piece of "equipment" i
have (other than the horse) is a cheap mattress in the top! Sleeps better
than my bed at home (provided I don't sit up and hit my head on the
ceiling!!) Air mattresses have never worked for me-- tried about 5 of them---
always woke up on a flattened bag! If you don't have a gooseneck--- sweep out
the back when you get to the ride, lay down an old piece of carpet(big enough
to fit under your sleeping bag), a couple of the egg crate mats, and then
your sleeping bag-- pretty comfy!!

Hope you find something useful in the above--

PS-- nifty trick we found this past summer while camping at the lake---
find an old portable AC unit (or window unit?)-- put it outside next to a
window of the tent-- zip the window up around front vent of the AC-- all the
cold air is blown into the tent--works good at night---- looks a little
(okay, A LOT) redneck, but hey-- the cold air feels great!!
