Re: [RC] Future prospects for bowed tendon/pulled suspensory? - firedancefarmsHi Lucy, Do not dispair! In my experience, tendons heal well and become no problem. I had a stallion who bowed two and went on to complete 3500 miles before his untimely death. One of our top endurance horses had an old bow and finished the Tevis, which is quite a feat from OKlahoma! I would not hesitate to buy a horse with an old bow for endurance. Suspensories, IMO, are another matter. I cannot say from personal experience on suspensories, but I see people that have horses with susp problems continue to have lameness problems over and over again. WHY? Because people dont' leave their horses off long enough. SIX MONTHS MINIMUM. I mean, take those shoes off, don't get on the horse! He will run around the pasture and look sound as a dollar, often only weeks after the injury. STAY OFF! If you can give your horse at least six months off, I think your prognosis is very good.
