Re: [RC] Horses Passing - Susan Garlinghouse

I agree that a bullet in the brain is a feasible and humane option as
well. I

I put down a cow yesterday with a captive bolt (same as a bullet, just
safer) and yes, it was a very humane death for her. And yes, respectful as
well.

It always seemed to me that if horses could discuss the matter, they would
be very happy with this end. Euthanasia solution IV just isn't always
feasible for a myriad of reasons totally aside from finances. My choice has
always been to provide the most painless and safe death I can for my
animals, send the body for disposal, and send the money I might have spent
for a backhoe or cremation to an appropriate animal charity. The only
animal I ever cremated was my beloved dog Solo---and even he has a bench in
the gardens at the CSU vet hospital donated in his name. I think he would
have preferred that.

Anyway, it seems to me that respect has a lot of different definitions. If
you're happy eating ramen noodles, then at least consider whether the end
result is for the sake of an animal or just to make yourself feel better.
:-)
