Good post!  Agree with you!  And if the back and body conformation is
correct the horse
has a good chance of having a good way of going.  And if not .....

Had never considered the question before.  My main observation would
be that we (my wife and I) have not had any problems with saddles
slipping
forward
and we do some pretty steep downhills in our dressage saddles.

Bottom line here is that if horses have poor back conformation, saddles
will
invariably slip.  If they have great back conformation, saddles won't slip.
Many horses are "in between" and in many cases where a horse has at least a
reasonable back, the difference can be due to saddle fit as well.  I've
reached the point where backs and body proportions are the FIRST things I
look at in potential prospects, and I don't even bother to look at legs
unless the backs and bodies pass muster....
