I hope they choke on their guilt, but I suppose it's unlikely.  If they
didn't feel a sense of guilt when they took the saddle, they're unlikely to
feel it now.  When someone steals something, it's like a violation of the
person from whom they stole.  There's something very special about one's
personal belongings, and the theft of a favorite tool, item of clothing, a
saddle, and especially a horse, constitute a major violation.  I empathize
with your father.
