Horses and us

Howdy RC'rs!! (Look out, its a long post)
I hope everyone is having a great holiday season!! For
Thanksgiving: We Flooded. For Christmas: It looks like
we're going to be Flooded. Guess what that means. No
riding!! But hay, we get lots of grooming time :)!!
The other great news I have is that on all the hills
up above us (my favorite and basic only riding and
training areas) are being clear cutt. I understand
economy, and logging, and that this must happen, but
you think they would have learned by now NOT to
completley take all the trees out. When they do this,
there's nothing to hold the banks up anymore, and with
our rain at least 10 months out of the year = SLIDES!!

The horses are actually running around through the
field, splashing in some of the standing water, and
not giving a hoot about the weather.  The only bad
part is that when we go out to ride, the roads are
either so heavy with traffic and log trucks, or slick,
its dangerous to go faster than a slow trot.

For Christmas, what did everyone ask for?? Well, at
age three I wanted to be a horse when I 'grew up' and
then I wanted to be a rancher by age 6. Also trainer
by age 8. Sadely enough, all I've ever asked for for
presents are tack, grooming equipment, or "horsey
things".  All the other teens I know love makeup,
boys, dates, and popularity. I'm not sorry to say that
Horses are, and always have been my life.

I asked for tack. Thunder really needed a new breast
collar for the dressage saddle. Our saddle pad needs
to be taken out behind the barn and shot, and the poor
ol' bit, well, its had many years of use. So, mom and
I made a special trip to Portland tack stores and each
got "horse" gifts. Thunder is now the proud wearer and
bearer of a full cheek snaffle ( I love this compared
to the curb. He responds sooo much better!) A very
nice thick saddle pad for Mr. high withers (that fits
great under the saddle) and a dark raised leather
breast collar w/ a running martingale. (It's simply
amazing how the head comes down and you can release
the pressure just as quickly, without sending him into
a bucking fit like a tie down always has. also why we
don't use the standing martingale :)

For those of you who have all matching tack, GREAT!!
For those of you like me who don't give a hoot, just
glad to have it, you may understand my situation. She
is still concerned about the havana colored breast
collar, while the saddle is a very light, almost beige
brown. I pointed out that the bridle is also very
dark, and that the saddle pad would probably match
soon anyway because of all the mud. 
Well, we are having a great christmas here and hope
all of you and your horses get to go riding :) we will
soon, or I'm gonna go nutts :)

Thunder (okay mom, lets just get tacked up and out of
this rain, btw, don't I look GREAT!! *ego horsey grin*

Sam (yah yah, get away from that mirror and lets get
on the trail. i don't know where you get your fashion
conscious from, mom's just like me, horse crazy, fancy free)
