Tevis Weight Requirement Abolished

After thirty-five years the minimum weight requirement of 165 pounds for
consideration of the Lloyd Tevis Cup or the James Ben Ali Haggin Cup has
been abolished. During the annual meeting of the Board of Governors on
November 21, 1998 a vote was take by members present and the motion was
passed by an overwhelming majority.

The riders will still be required to weigh in with all tack so the
statistics can be maintained for further studies. Since the weight
requirement was established in 1964, the average weight carried for the
Tevis Cup winner is 182.6 with average age of the horse at 9.8 years and
the average weight for the Haggin Cup winner is 178.4 with average age
of horse at 9.1 years.
