[RC] Valley of the Sun Ride 4 - irmurphy

The last scheduled Valley of the Sun endurance ride will be held this coming Sat. February 28, 2009 in the McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Fountain Hills, Arizona.  The future of these rides and the willingness of the park to continue to allow these events will depend on the continued success of this event.

Two distances will be offered this weekend with both a 25 mile and 50 mile course.  Both the 25 and 50 mile events are AERC and AHA sanctioned.

There is plenty of room for camping and leashed dogs are permitted at the ride.  Horse water is available and located at the far west end of the campsite. The park will be charging a 'participant fee' of $12.00 which will cover entrance for those who chose to trailer in both days. This is a change from the previous events. A photographer will be available and all pictures are included as part of the ride completion awards.

Check in and vetting will begin at 2pm on Friday and continue through dark.  Limited vetting in will be available Sat. morning.  Scheduled start times for the 50 mile event is 7am and 7:30 am for the 25 mile ride.  The 50 mile course consists of 2 loops of ~25 miles with a 1 hour hold and the 25 mile course consists of a 17 and 8 mile loop with a 1 hour hold.

Dinner will be provided Friday evening during the ride meeting and lunch will be available on Sat.  All vet checks and basecamp are at the same location.

Ride entry and directions are available at www.maverickstables.com.  Park information is also available.

The weather forecast is warm and the desert flowers will be blooming, looking forward to seeing everyone at the ride.
