[RC] poultice recipe(was Cool Cast) - g brass

An anti-inflammatory poultice used for treating sprains and strains.

5.3 ounces each of zinc oxide and gelatin
5.6 ounces each of water and glycerine
Mix all ingredients, stir and heat in a double boiler.  The mixture is ready to use when it is the consistency of thick paint.  Unused portions will solidify and can be reheated in a double boiler for later application.

Apply liberally to the leg with a small paint brush, wrap leg with 2 inch wide gauze, liberally apply poultice with paint brush over the gauze.  Keep the horse away from dust and bedding for about 20 minutes to allow the paste time to set.  This bandage will dry to the consistency of foam rubber, will stay in place, and can remain on the leg for several days.
