OT [RC] Auburn now snow country! :) - D'Arcy Demianoff-Thompson

Got more snow here yesterday.  Our electricity is up and down like a yoyo!  Hopefully, I can get barn chores done before the next wave of storms.  Can't get the manure cart to the pile from the snow.  Have to pile on the side until the snow is melted.  What in the heck do the people in the East do to maintain their manure when they are snowed in????

Hang in there Kathie.  My friend Shannon Fiorello (grew up in Montana) never blanketed her horses.  Once you blanket you have to always blanket she says!

Know what you mean; snow falling where it usually doesn't.  4 of us "hardy souls" did a 16 mile conditioning ride at Whiskeytown, which is near Redding, Calif.  As we were driving into the park, we were looking at the snow on the low hills.  We rode anyway, the snow was 4" to 6" and untouched, until we went through.  The last time we had ridden in snow, in a different area, my friend's horse had a lot of trouble getting "snowballs" in his hooves.  This time, however, no problem.  i think the moisture content of the snow, and how long it's been laying on the ground has a lot to do with it. Anyway, no one was getting "high centered", and the horses ranged in shoe sizes from 00 to size 2.

We trotted most of our ride yesterday, and the horses got a good workout.  My horse, however, didn't like the occasional plops of snow falling out of the trees, either on him or right behind him!  It certainly was pretty, up near Panther Gab, with the sun shining on the new snow, making it look silvery.  renie
