[RC] Way of life or hobby - Beth Leggieri

MB said a mouthful:  "But you forgot that horses are a way of life------not a hobby."

We are preparing to build on our farm property and move "out there," and my 30-year old daughter is incredulous, actually asking me "How LONG can you continue to ride, Mom?"  Since she's not a horse girl, she is missing the entire point.  Some things can't be explained.  I will *always* have a horse, whether I can ride it or not.  And the quote below says it better than I can.

"Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole and, once it has done so, he will have to accept that his life will be radically changed."--Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Everything's just getting too expensive for many of us to justify having horses as a hobby any longer.
