[RC] Another question on canter leads - k s swigart

For those of you who canter their endurance horses on long straight aways at
endurance rides (or in training), how often do you change leads, if you do?

Me?? While I change diagonals at the trot on every 10 strides (actually 10 1/2
to be completely accurate), if I am cantering a long distance (which I don't
that often because the trail conditions rarely ever allow it), I will usually
change about every 100 srides, but it depends upon how long I think the canter
is going to be.? And I don't do flying changes, I do simple changes.

I don't do this THAT much because there just aren't that many trails around
here where some feature of the terrain doesn't require some kind of a change
(either a sharpish turn or the footing or slope changes such that I want to
stop cantering anyway, after which, if it is another straight away, I just pick
up the other lead).

As an example, for those of you who have or are going to canter substantial
portions of a ride like Git R Done where there is no slope to speak of, few
turns, and consistent footing, I am interested to know how often and how you
change leads.
