Sometimes there are riders and horses at the back of thepack who are just as inspiring, or more so, than those performing up front. Like many things in life, as we get older and more frail, the finish line seems to move further away, and so eventually, just being able to still reach it really is a "win." I think it was Lew Hollander who came up with the phrase, "To Complete is to Win," which evolved into "To Finish is toWin." He and his wife, Hanna, have been ambassadors of our sport for years. He also developed the concept of the gate-into-a-hold vet check. He had great foresight, and even now, in his late 70's, continues to compete in the Hawaii Iron Man competitions. He has finished it over 20 times. Not bad for and old man, eh?
