RE: [RC] riding mares - Carrie - ll cole

My retired mare..."Holly's Lucky Charm" APHA  with points. Her barn name?.....Trollop. When she's in season.. any stud anywhere in the barn, geldings, aggresive mares, ponies, or big dogs. She is still my favorite, and I love her with all my heart....moody or not. (my husband says she is such a witch at times, that's why we get along so well!!)

> I love both mares and geldings, owned both, and like people, they all have their quirks, personality differences, etc. However, I do prefer mares and I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe I feel more "connected" to them, especially my girl, Ember. (And I really don't enjoy sheath cleaning). She's pure Polish Arabian and I jokingly call her my Ferrari. Does she act like a Ferrari? Yes!! Especially on the way home! People always say to me "you have an Arab mare?!! What are you, crazy??!!" Maybe. Haha She is ALWAYS mareish, every 3 weeks, like clockwork she turns into a hussy. I have just accepted this about her. It's part of who she is and we work thru it.
> It took Ember and I a good year to bond and get on the same page. Trust was a common issue between us but we got past it after a lot of head-butting and hard work. I almost gave up a few times, but there was something about her I didn't want to give up on. We still have our little rodeo moments and arguments, but when I look back, this horse has taught me more about horsemanship and riding than any other horse I've ever owned. I NEVER would have dreamed of doing an LD until I owned this horse.
> She doesn't have a mean bone in her body, but does lose her marbles now and then and can be frightful at times. We just keep working together and I never entertain ideas of giving up on her now. She keeps me on my toes. There's no way in h*ll I could ever part with her, no matter what. I love her with all my heart. :)
