[RC] Virginia City 100 - sherman

Title: Message
Having just returned from VC, pulled at 77 mi due to poor CRI, even though initial pulse down had been good. The horse had some pain response in the girth area, possibly from a shifting girth with all the up & down hills. Everything else was fine, so not sure if the poor CRI was from pain, hope so as that is easy to take care of. I know of pulls due to a bruised heel bulb, a fall on the pavement, another sore girth area, a couple were just too tired after the SOBs, another had just a little hitch in hind end at 93 miles, but is fine this am.

It wasn't hot, but was windy which dehydrated me more than any ride I've been to even though I drank about 48 oz each loop. Maybe the wind dehydrated horses as well, so even though they were drinking well, it still wasn't quite enough? One of the horses I rode about 37 miles with never looked wet, just salty. It seems that they would have to sweat more to try to cool their bodies, since the wind would keep drying them out quickly. Anyone know?

Ride management, vets  and volunteers were great!
