Re: [RC] Diesel - Michael Lewis

Similarly, I'm getting about 20-22 unloaded with my '06 Dodge 3500 dually with the diesel. 6-speed manual transmission.  14-15loaded with a trailer of 10,000 pounds, 12ish if I'm going up mountains.  I drive the speed limit, maybe 2-3 mph less if traffic is heavy.

Consider the resale value, maintenance expense, and the relative longevity of the diesel engine compared to gas in your decision... as well as towing performance and what you can live with as far as how hard you'll have to make the truck work to pull your trailer.

My 2001 Dodge 2500 diesel gets 19 or so on the highway when I'm not towing. Towing I got about 14 with a heavy trailer and two large horses.    Jean

Subject: [RC] Diesel

Does anyone know what kind of mileage a diesel gets? We got hit by a driver who ran a stop sign and our truck is totaled. We now have to get another 350 and most of them are diesel. No dually, prefer 4 x 2 - and wanted gas, but they are harder to find apparently. I wondered about the mileage since the tank is MUCH smaller than a gas tank. I hate having to keep stopping when I haul the trailer.
