[RC] Camping without amenities - Lynn White

Here are things I do:

Sleep in whatever you plan to start the ride in. Me, I can't sleep in riding
tights so I just sleep in a pair of sweats and keep the tights in the bag with
me. Sleep in clean clothes because the salt in sweat attracts moisture.

If you use an air mattress make sure you sleep on one of those foam pads that
backpackers use. They really keep the heat in.

I sleep in a fleece hat. Lots of body heat is lost from your head.

When you get up and moving wear coveralls to prevent heat loss and to keep YOUR
muscles warm.

I make coffee (or a hot drink) the night before and put it in a thermos and
wrap the thermos in a blanket. A pair of shipping boots works well for this
too. It's still pretty hot by morning. That way I'm getting a hot drink in me
without having to wait for something to heat up.

Drink LOTS of water even though you know it will make you get up at night.
This way you can check on your horse and throw him a flake or two. Dehydration
causes the blood to thicken making it harder for you body to regulate
temperature. Try to park near a porta-pottie for this reason! I also keep a
pair of rubber clogs so I don't have to put on shoes at night.

Make sure the e-lytes are done, the lunch is made, water bottles filled up the
night before because being cold tends to make one forgetful.
