As I said - I do agree, to a point. Valerie's description of her mare sounds like she might have similar issues as I do with Caisson. I'm not disagreeing that training is required. That is one reason why I have Caisson in training with a hunter/jumper trainer who consistently has horses (both hers and her students horses) that go quietly around the course, rather than getting all hot at bothered. It is also why I volunteered to lead group trail rides for our ranch - they are walk- only.

However, I do think that there is a limit, depending on your horse's temperament and your expertise. Some horses are more easy-going and more easily convinced than others.

I do agree it takes a lot of time. :)

shortcut for training. If you don't know what to do, find someone who can
help. Show training was my choice because of the trainer that I knew and
trusted, but anything that focuses on the basic movements of the horse and
focus would be good. And time. Lots of time.
