[RC] 100's & Decade Teams - Karen

On the topic of 100's - the AERC National Championship is coming up soon. The 100 is September 11th, and the 50 on September 13th. The ride is located in Northern California (West Region) in beautiful Greenville. A lot of work and effort has been put into the ride this year (as I know is every year), so please come and support it as a volunteer or as a rider or both! A list of current entries can be found here: http://patriotsdayride.com/2009entries.html The rider list will be updated every few days up until the ride. There is still time to enter! The ride is going to be in gorgeous mountainous and forested country so don't miss this chance to ride. If you aren't qualified you can still enter and ride unqualified if you are willing to sponsor a junior. To see a map of the trail, go here: http://patriotsdayride.com/Patriot_2009_Phased8_10.jpg It's a really nicely laid out trail. You aren't having to go in and out of camp constantly which is nice - you'll get to see some beautiful country. If you want to see what the trail is like, click here for photos: http://patriotsdayride.com/2009photos.html and to follow news of the event as it unfolds, subscribe via Twitter or go to this page: http://patriotsdayride.com/2009news.html

All of you West Regioners (and others, too) that just entered the Tevis have the opportunity to participate in both the Tevis ride this year AND the National Championship 100 - don't pass up the opportunity as it may not come along again while your horse is 100 mile ready. The timing is perfect for your horse to have rested up a bit after doing Tevis. Go for it!!

Onto Decade Teams - I'm waiting for a new report from Mike to update it with any new Decade Teams into 2009 as far as possible. If you have a horse that should be on the Decade Team list and isn't, click on the email link at the bottom of this page and let me know: http://aerc.org/new_decade_teams.asp To qualify for a Decade Team you need to have completed at least one fifty mile endurance ride in ten ride seasons. The seasons don't have to be consecutive, but it does have to be the same horse and same rider. There are no awards for this and it is not an official AERC award. However, most people view this as a long term career goal now for their horse and the ultimate reward is that you have had the great privilege of being able to share the sport of endurance riding with your equine partner for a decade. Congratulations to all who have made it so far!

Karen
