RE: [RC] Tevis Buckles - paul

Hi Melissa,

Congratulations on another 100.

What to do ?? With multiple Buckles?? How about really gaudy earrings? Don't
wear them too much though or you could wind up with earlobes the length of a
mule.

Piper and I did the Old Dominion 100 (as Cavalry) and Tevis ("Yes, Kind
Volunteer. My horse would love another piece of watermelon before we head out
for the next canyon") in 2007. The old trail on the OD was tougher. Much more
rocks, steeper grades to go up and down. Remember the rockier parts of Granite
Chief at Tevis? The turns at the switchbacks coming up to Devls Thumb? Like
that but a lot more of it. Lower absolute temps at the OD, but throw in the
humidity, and the heat index was probably about the same. Crossing the
Shenendoah River was about as magical as crossing the American River, but was
in daylight instead. Less riders, no dust. Lots of water and grazing on trail.
Both rides are special.

The new trail at the OD is supposed to have longer grades to climb , but not as
steep or as much rock on trail. I've missed the ride for the past two years for
various reasons, but plan to do it in 2010. There was a group of Southeast
riders planning to go to Big Horn in 2008, but things came up. Maybe in 2010?
