[RC] If Tevis is Like Woodstock... - k s swigart

Each rider with 1,2 or more friends to crew,
?another 1 or 2 folks to move trailers and of
?course there is the spare horse you brought
?just in case your "Tevis horse" didn't vet in.
?So if there are two hundred riders each with
?4 crew and two horses, thats 1,000 people and
?400 horses all in one campground! Not counting
?bazillions of volunteers and vendors etc. GEEZE!
?It FEELS EXCITING! And that excitement continues
?from Robie throughout every part of the ride and
?every vet check.
?
If this is what Tevis is really like, then it is an event that I would avoid
like the plague.? Just READING this description give me the creeps.?
?
Tevis is something that is worth experienceing
?at least ONCE whether you ride it, crew or volunteer.
?Especially if you are a babyboomer who is sorry
?they missed Woodstock.
?
There wasn't anything that anybody ever described to me about Woodstock that
made me think, "Gee, I wish I could have been there." And I have never
understood the appeal of it or why ANYBODY would want to subject themselves to
such a thing.
?
The Tevis TRAIL (the climbs, the descents, the edges, the bridges, the water
crossings) sounds like a challenge that I would like to meet, but if Tevis the
event itself is like Woodstock, then if I ever do decide to try the trail, I
think I will do it on a different day, and avoid the Woodstock thing entirely.
?
And come to think of it, doing it on a different day (when there aren't 1000+
people there to hold your hand through it, or get in the way) sounds like an
even greater challenge.? I'll have to con somebody into meeting me at assorted
places along the trail, and moving my rig to then end...but wait, I would have
to do that even if I were to try it on Tevis day.? I won't get the buckle, but
if I wouldn't pay the extra entry fee to get the buckle anyway; I don't wear
belts.
?
Can anybody tell me, how hard is it to find the trail if it hasn't been marked
for the event?
