My horses always eat the dunks - I've tried anchoring them to a weight in the middle of the troughs, but they horses just reach over and get them anyway. I'm going to look for some sort of cage type thing to put them in to protect them. I don't want to put bleach in the water because I might kill off other critters I enjoy, such as the water striders.
