[RC] Sidelined - Bruce WearyHi Valerie--I have a saying that I often tell my patients: "I recommend treatment as if time and money were no object." By that I mean I recommend optimal treatment, and then discuss alternatives, if those aren't possible for the patient to follow. You need an MRI, and now, to evaluate that shoulder. DO NOT have any manipulation done to that shoulder until it is ascertained what the damage is and if the joint is stable. If you have indeed torn ligaments, manipulating the shoulder is the WRONG thing to do, and may cause more harm. There is a difference between what is commonly called a shoulder "separation" and a "dislocation." Both are serious enough to warrant clear diagnosis through imaging (MRI) and most probably rehab. Your injury certainly does not sound like on that will simply heal with time. Good luck with your recovery.
