I'd like to see a vet chime in here on this one!   I have been instructed to NEVER give antibiotics if strangles is suspected.

What I read said this would just delay symptoms, they'd be protected
until they went off the antibiotics and then get it. If you were *sure*
you got away from the contaminant it would help, but if they would still
be exposed after they got off it would not.  Again, taking a temp gave
you a jump on everything. If your horse's temp jumped.. (103 I think was
what they said) you separate that one quickly *before* it starts
spreading it.
