YANG di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin warmed up for two upcoming endurance races by finishing fifth in the 40km race of the Terengganu Fun and Easy Ride at the Terengganu International Endurance Park in Lembah Bidong, Setiu, on Sunday.

The King, riding Arabian B.H. Magna Thor with an average speed of 11.65km per hour, clocked three hours, 25 minutes and 58 seconds to complete the course.

The Regent of Terengganu Tengku Muhammed Ismail and his sister Tengku Nadhirah Zahrah, riding Harmere Cairo and Jakim Zane respectively, also completed the 40km course.

First place in the category went to Wan Mohd Kamaluddin Wan Yussof who clocked an average speed of 15.72 kph to cross the finish line after 2:32:38s.

The 60km category was won by Shahril Reza Shaheen on Mora Anika (4:03:55s), followed by Mohd Faizal Hamid on Moro Deuz (4:36:58s) in second place and Ahmad Azura Abdul Ghani on Never Mind (5:00:50s) in third.

The 80km title went to Faizal Ismail on Rayyan who completed the race in 4:13:26s while Zainuddin Yusof, astride B. Santa Margarita, was one minute and 27 seconds behind in second place.

Royal Terengganu Endurance Stable general manager Che Mat Din Ismail said a total of 51 riders took part in the event organised by the stable and the State government.

He said the competition was part of the preparation for the Penn-Pahang Endurance Challenge in Cherating, Pahang, next month and the Sultan's Cup Endurance Challenge in Lembah Bidong in November.- NST
