[RC] re: pop-up shades/canopies - Michelle Aquilino

I wanted to add a comment here.? I have one of the "standard" pop-up canopies that you see all over ridecamp and the vet check areas.? The kind that you typically see 4 people setting up, one at each pole, and all walk apart simultaneously.? I have set it up twice so far.? Once with two people, pretty easy.? At the OD I set it up by myself.? It takes a little longer, but IS possible.? I expanded the legs as much as my arm span would allow, and then I simply walked around to each pole, pulling it out a little further each time, just walking around in a circle.? I will say that the only interesting/questionable part was lifting the legs up.? The first peg is REALLY high, so when I lifted the first one (ie - one REALLY long leg, three short legs) it was, well, interesting, lol.? But I did it =)? When it was time to pack up, I did the same thing in reverse, putting it entirely away all by my lonesome.? Sure, it's easier with other people, but it makes me feel good knowing that I don't need other people around to get my canopy up and down =)? The other time I set it up (the first time ever) was when I volunteered at No Frills this year.? For those of you who were there, you remember quite the winds that first night!? I was a nervous wreck at the ride meeting and dinner, was expecting to go back to my "camp" with the canopy having flown over the fence and lying upside down in the neighboring field.? Alas, with just?one normal stake in each of the four legs, the canopy stayed put all afternoon, evening, and all through the rain stormed night!? I got it on black friday at deep discount one year, you take what you can get, and you find a way to make it work =)? I have been learning that given creativity, patience, and perseverence, you can do almost anything by yourself...
?
- Also to note, I am an extremely petite 5'3 woman, so no strongman here!? Just stubborn ;-)
