I think it would be nice if the equestrians could do something similar to
the off-roaders but wouldn't it limit the places you could ride? Since I do
not ride in National Parks I am curious on how that would work.

Not to belabor the issue but I came across this today and decided to pass it
along.

A recent poll commissioned by Investor's Business Daily asked, in effect,
"What share [of the tax burden] do you think the rich pay?"

In the poll most folks said the rich should pay a higher share but actually
they thought they should pay lower than they actually do. But here is the
comment I thought was the most enlightening.

"Liberal families earn about 6 percent more than conservative families, yet
conservative households donate about 30 percent more to charity than do
liberal households. And conservatives give more than just to their own
churches and other houses of worship. Conservatives, especially religious
conservatives, give far more money and donate more of their time to
nonreligious charitable causes than do liberals-especially secular
liberals."

Well since the top 5% of all earners contribute over 60% of all tax
revenues, it seems to already be a skewed system.

Not that this is the place for this discussion.

Well, rich is as rich does, and a millionaire would smell the same
under any other name. But it is the Republicans who have blocked every
tax increase for the ricos because they have 40% of the legislative
seats. But that's ok as long as you believe the poor deserve to be
poor.

The last time I looked there were thousands of rich Democrats in
California.
They were making the budgets the last few years with Arnold signing
them.

Cut money to schools, healthcare for poor children -- thank God for the
60% legislative supermajority requirement to increase taxes, gotta
protect those rich Republicans.

<It is unfortunately a time-honored political tactic, when the voters
resist tax increases, to shut down the services that people value the
most, first.
So that the politicians can come back and get their tax increases.>

Yes, of course that is exactly what it is. I tried to look online to
see exactly where the proposed budget was going, but they are pretty
vague about it.
I heard there is a good sized chunk set aside for seals. Good for
them, but I think they could give up their share in order to keep our
parks open. The seals seem to be doing just fine...they have their own
private beach in La Jolla for goodness sake! Used to be the
Childrens's Beach until the seals took it.
Before this the scare tactic was taking away our firefighters and
police...
and letting felons out before their time was up.
There are many many ways to cut costs, but they are not giving us
choices.
I think they should hand out a checklist of where the tax dollars go
and allow us to choose where we want our money spent. State and
federal. That would put things right!
