Better be careful. Hay comes from plants - plants contain plant hormones which are one the AERC list. Damn there might be a weed in the bail you happen to get a random that has something someone on the AERC vet committee did not like.  I don't think right now given the AERC drug rule you can even safely conclude hay is legal.

Think about it - it is a pretty sad state of affairs when those of us that are paying our hard earned bucks to support the organization in a recreational sport have to ask the organization for a list of what we can feed. Who is running the organization - the members or a committee that is not elected by the members that seems to want to dictate what we can and can't feed in the guise of a drug rule. Does anyone else perceive that something is wrong with this equation? I sure do.

OK, whatever. This thread is the first time it has been brought up that oats and rice bran might be "illegal" at a competition. That is fine with me, but I don't care to spend the time it takes to come to these conclusions. Now I just want a LIST of LEGAL PRODUCTS that are OK to feed within 96 hours of competition. I would like AERC to publish this list of products they have approved. Since hay is the most important feed the horse needs to ingest, the supplements are mostly an appatite stimulus for my horse, and I am sure he would be fine with most anything (other than his plain ol' beet pulp), if it has some carrots in it.
