Re: [RC] Guns with Blanks (was: Folsom Lake Accident) - Barbara McCrary

When three dirt-bikers came toward us down a single-track trail through the manzanita, I was lucky to be 1) first rider in our group of three, and 2) mounted on Jess, who is as close to being bomb-proof as any horse I've ever ridden. Three guys came right up to us, who had by this time stopped on the trail, effectively blocking their forward progress. They asked us to let them by and we said they would be trespassing if we did. They said they were lost, and I carefully explained how to get back where they came from. The said they were running out of gas and I said that was unfortunate. Finally, they decided they had run out of excuses and they turned around and left. The second and third riders, now the first and second ones, politely and quietly started their bikes and quietly rode back up the trail away from us. The third rider, closest to me, decided to hassle me a bit, so he started his bike with as much noise as possible, ran up to within 6 feet of my horse, spun a couple of circles practically under Jess' nose, and roared back up the trail away from us. All this time, Jess is standing quietly, with a "So???" attitude, as if to say, "What's up with that jerk?" He never budged the whole time. I love that horse's attitude.
We have some bikers who come onto our ranch and run through the pastures tearing up soil. We've never been able to catch them, because it is 3/4 mile away and by the time we get there where we hear them, they are long gone.

Good point but I figure a dirt bike rider doing donuts around my horse is a weapon in itself endangering my life and my horses. I would not pull any type of gun unless you have threatened me first.
