[RC] Thanks -alfalfa-free diet for mule - Jill Carr

Thanks (belatedly) for all your good advice for putting my allergic mule on an alfalfa-free diet.  He’s now getting orchard grass hay with a small amount of COB w/molasses, and he has tapered off the Prednisolone.  Too soon to tell how successful we will be.  At the moment we’re stuck in Las Vegas on the way to the Mt Carmel XP ride … with a broken trailer axle! … good grief!  Hopefully, we’ll be on our way soon.

And since there’s so much discussion about feeds, supplements & grains, I’m curious who uses just COB?  I settled on it since I used to have good success with it in the past, it doesn’t take much of it, and it seemed so uncomplicated!  At the vet checks, he gets grass hay & water, his COB w/molasses with cut up carrots & apples.  Any opinions about that?
