Re: [RC] Cleaning Toklat wool pads - Diane Trefethen

I've been buying and using Toklat wool pads for over 20 years. For the first 5 yrs or so, I waited forever to wash them and then did so in my bathtub.... very carefully. Then I talked with a Toklat rep at Convention and she said that was all wrong. The biggest threat to the pads was the horse's sweat residue and hairs. Washing was good for the pad, just not with super harsh detergents. So I started washing more often, in my washing machine with relatively mild laundry soap, and the results have been excellent. I currently have 3 pads, the oldest is about 15 years, the newest about 6 years.

Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning the wool pads besides completely soaking it in water? I have a ride this weekend and I don't think I could get it dried out by then (it won't fit in my dryer) if it is totally soaked.
