[RC] One of my cardinal rules of horses (was: gloves) - k s swigart

Cindy Collins said:

I have a good girlfriend here in Cody
?who didn't wear gloves while dealing
?with an excited horse. BTW, it was a
?yacht rope lead. Two fingers on her
?hand were "de- gloved" ....no skin
?left, down to the bone and tendons.
?
This, BTW, is why one of my first safety rules of horses is:
?
Never hold onto anything made out of nylon the other end of which is attached
to a horse.
?
Yachting rope is made out of nylon.
?
I don't own any reins made out of yachting rope, and I wouldn't use them if you
gave them to me.? The only thing I use nylon lead ropes for (that have been
given to me or I have won as awards) is to tie gates shut.? You certainly won't
catch me using one for leading a horse.
?
My reins are leather or rubber?and my lead ropes are cotton (as are my driving
lines and my longe lines).

p.s.? It is also the reason that all my lead ropes and reins have knots in the
end of them (and some of the lead ropes have knots in the middle of them too).?
It is far easier to hold onto a knot than it is to hold onto a rope.
