FW: [RC] round reins / not rope - Mike Sherrell

The problem with gloves is you can't feel anything nice with your hands,
such as in particular your horse's coat. It's the sensual input that is
really the main reason for riding, no? And the palms of your hands and
fronts of your fingers are the part of your skin that is most tactilely
informative. Wind in the face is nice, too.

There are leather round reins, but since they are made of braided
leather, I'm not sure whether they would be better at preventing rope
burns. I suspect cheaper ones would be worse, and expensive ones
(with the leather more smoothed) would be the same or better.

I have always used these round yacht rope reins since getting my
horse. But when I fell off the other weekend, I got some pretty bad
rope burn on a couple of my fingers. I really like the round reins
though, as opposed to flat. Are there any round rein options made
of another material that would not be susceptible to rope burn?
Thanks! -Michelle
