Re: [RC] Music to ride to!//Endurance CDs - Beverley H. Kane, MD

Title: Re: [RC] Music to ride to!//Endurance CDs
I’m for the sounds of nature, when available. And I have songs I sing to get me and my horse thru spooky situations. My 3 favorite calming songs are:
  • Dona Dona (The Winds Are Laughing)
  • Angel from Montgomery
  • Cowgirls Don’t Cry
  • When You Walk Through a Storm

I once trained my horse w/ an iPod, using a splitter to supply earphone to both my ears and her ears. This was in training for a kur (musical dressage show). PM me for pix of this droll sight.

There are 2 great CDs by Bobbie Someone, all endurance songs set to other tunes. Like (Life’s a Little Crazy With a) “Spooky” (Little Horse Like You), “All She Wants to Do is Trot” (to Don Henley’s “All She Wants to Do Is Dance”), “A Hard Day’s Ride,” “Train On Trainer” to Beach Boy’s “Sail On,” and my favorites, “Newbies to the Left of Me, Hot Shoes to the Right, Here I am Stuck in the Middle Whaddo I Do?”  You can get them from our AERC sponsor Healthy as a Horse

Some people aren’t as lucky to be able to ride in nature. Some people have to ride in arenas surrounded by trucks, cars, construction and traffic. So I guess the next time someone asks for input they need to give all the facts as to why they are asking J

I agree.  I much prefer to listen to the music of Nature.

There was a time when Lud and I rode Death Valley ride together that I remember singing "Sweet Betsy From Pike".  It has the perfect rhythm for the trot, and we were crossing "the wide mountains" at the time. Fun!
