Re: [RC] Music to ride to! - Barbara McCrary

I agree.  I much prefer to listen to the music of Nature.
There was a time when Lud and I rode Death Valley ride together that I remember singing "Sweet Betsy From Pike".  It has the perfect rhythm for the trot, and we were crossing "the wide mountains" at the time.  Fun!

I don't listen to music when I ride.  I like listening to the sounds of nature.  I'm a birder, so I identify the various birds I hear.  And in the spring, I identify the different frogs and toads I hear.  And call me silly, but I also talk to my horses now and then...not long conversations, just little comments or short statements.  They'll flick an ear back and listen.  Not sure if it annoys them or not, but I do it anyway.  <VBG>  Also, I prefer to hear what's going on around me.  And why is my horse suddenly tense and alert (or occasionally, why am I on the ground <G>)?  Is it just a deer bounding off, a herd of hogs crashing away, an illegal 4-wheeler, people ahead, or what?  Just my preference, of course.  I know lots of folks ride with music.

What are your favorite songs to listen to when you are riding? I'm looking for songs with a good steady beat!
