Re: [RC] music - maybe not the best idea - FXLivestock

I ride with music, podcasts, or books on tape all the time.  You can avoid the safety issues mentioned by Sandy and Sheila by using only one ear bud and keeping the volume reasonable. It is really not any more distracting or dangerous then having a conversation with a riding companion on trail.   When riding with my Ipod, I have never had a problem with not hearing warnings from other trail users or hearing hazards like rattlesnakes and mountain bikers coming up from behind.

Some of the advantages I have found is I ride more relaxed and don't fuss with my horses as much.  I have found that I have a better awareness of a spook or shy that may be coming probably because I am more relaxed.

I ride a lot of horses and spend a lot of hours on the same trails and roads alone.  Listening to my Ipod makes some of the LSD work less boring which keeps me out on the trail longer.  It has also made some long 100 mile rides when I have been riding alone pass more quickly.
