Re: [RC] "And 100 miles is not fun" - Barbara McCrary

My magic moment on a 100 miler was my first finish of Tevis. It was not because it was TEVIS, but because I had ridden nearly 24 hours to finish it.  I had started from Squaw Valley at 5:00 or 5:30 AM (don't remember which) and the next morning, I had timed in at Robie Point and was riding to the fairgrounds along the back streets just at early dawn.  I heard a rooster crowing his anthem to the dawn, and I thought "My God, what have I just done?"

Barbara, i use your quote and agree that at times in a 100 its not fun and it hurts for days afterward sometimes.

But, there are magic moments during 100's that i want on my tombstone.

"There is not a better high i have ever known than a horse that wants to canter at 80 miles."  ,,,,,,,,drugs, alcohol, sex, money, whatever, are all included in my life experience.

I may never be able to ever do another 100 i don't know, but magic moments like coming over the mountain in Colorado to the finish of the ROC will be one of the finest memories i could ever imagine.  Memories like these are the things that keep us young as we grow older.  ts
